Thank you for the illustrated version and the toasted bialy. Andy Kaufman practiced TM, too. :-)

Thank you! This will be so helpful to people. I learned TM when I was about 19 and have been doing it on and off for years and I need to get back to it at LEAST daily. I always do better when I keep it up, but... as Alice said, "I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it."

When I think of Transcendental Meditation I think of Mike Love. How will this impact my ability to meditate?

You have several choices. Pick someone better than Mike Love. Perhaps start with Darlene Love. Or find a way to think of Mike Love as a divine vessel of wisdom and peace. I know this can be done because the human imagination has allowed a third of the country to see the current president that way.

Congrats on your peaceful discovery. Been at it for about 12 years now, and it has brought about a massive transformation.

Btw, I have to laugh. I was recently at a work convention where everyone was wearing name tags, and it turns out the first name of one of the participants is my mantra!

Ahh, this is wonderful, as usual. Thank you for permission to meditate on food: I always used to feel guilty when food thoughts popped into my head during meditation and now I know it's ok. Is it ok to meditate on a certain very evil person choking on one of those Big Macs he's so fond of? Asking for a friend.

It is not okay to meditate on evil people choking because that puts you right smack in the middle of the worst stuff you want to get away from. The idea is to remind yourself to head toward the better side to existence.

It was a lame attempt at humor. Seriously, I do appreciate the value of meditation as well as the importance of escaping into nature annd creative work and away from the news cycle.

I have been doing TM for years since the late 70’s and that second one of the day just gets lost in the dinner shuffle and sometimes the second one does turn into a nap. Good to know that you are sitting down and meditating too. I think sandwich is a fine mantra. Maybe Maharishi would give you a more traditional one maybe he did way back when.

I got a real Hindu (or something) mantra from a TM instructor. And that is what I use. I just offered sandwich up as an example of how you can create your own and by pass the rather pricey fee that TM charges now.

I actually got a real mantra from the TM teacher. And I use it. I was just offering sandwiches as a way to figure it out without having to pay the steep fee to join. When I was in college it was like $75. Now its A LOT.

I've been doing the exact same thing for 9 weeks now. I am sleeping much better too - meaning I AM sleeping,at all. Twice a day meditating seems important and when I skip/forget, I notice! The neverending spew of news is just brutal. Thanks so much fr this x
